Administer chemotherapy, hydration and other medication under the direction and supervision of a physician. Assist physician with exam and procedures. Maintain efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms. Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication changes. Manage patient medication refill request from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart.
• Maintain all exam room disinfection protocols. Assess patient for change in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans, drug reaction and initiate appropriate action. • Maintain knowledge of reimbursement procedures. Complete all chemotherapy charge forms. Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent form are obtained prior to administration of therapies. • Demonstrate knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pump after use, and proper documentation of pump usage. Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management. • Perform venipuncture, access implanted port and maintain central line catheter devices. • Administer all medication using correct medication, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Display appropriate technical skill for the administration of chemotherapy, medication and blood products, to include, but not limited to: venipuncture, central line access and infusion devices. • Program portable infusion pump for continuous drug delivery and provide instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home. • Document nursing assessments, patient teaching and fluid and medication administration in the patient chart. Communicate all pertinent information and any intervention to the physician. Assure nursing charge are accurate and complete on patient fee slips. • Act as a resource person to the medical assistants. Triage patient phone call a needed and document relevant information in the patient' chart. • Assess patient/family need and provide teaching and other instructional material. Demonstrate awareness of community resource available to patient and assist with referral if necessary.
